100-Word Review: My Favorite Year
It’s amazing how much movies have changed in the 27 years since this one came out:  My Favorite Year now looks much more like a TV show than a movie.  (Hell, TV shows look more like movies nowadays than this movie does.)  Still, Oscar-nominated Peter O’Toole is wonderful as a washed-up movie icon reduced to appearing on, yes, a TV show; he plays Very Drunk perhaps a bit too convincingly.  Mark Linn-Baker, in his first film role as essentially a young Mel Brooks, displays all of the over-earnestness and annoyingness (is that a word?) he’d later bring to “Perfect Strangers.”
