Paranoid much?

I realize that my distrust and hatred for our current administration might make me a little overly paranoid about such things, but doesn’t it seem a little bit strange that just two weeks after Sandra Day O’Connor resigns her post on the Supreme Court, Chief Justice William Rehnquist suddenly takes ill?

Apparently, there was much speculation last week that Rehnquist was going to step down himself, but that didn’t actually happen. Which means, of course, that the White House secretly tried to force him to step down; he at first gave in, much like O’Connor before him, but then changed his mind and refused, and now they’re trying to have him killed (and who would believe that–the guy’s 80, so his getting sick and going to the hospital is hardly surprising) so they can make way for more ultra-conservative justices of their choosing. Even if they can’t decide amongst themselves just who that might be.

Do I think that’s what really happened? No, not really…but what makes me both so sad and so angry is that I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised it if had.

    Walter laughs at me for being the biggest conspiracy theorist around. Yet now I have company since Mark moved down–we were totally engrossed in Moon Landing? Fact or Fiction on the Discovery Channel the other week, to Walter’s disgust. I know I’m a little on the extreme side, but on the other hand people who swallow everything the government tells them without a healthy dose of skepticism are just…stupid.

    And now, per my usual suspicion, I’m guessing we’ve both placed ourselves on the C.I.A.’s list with these ramblings, LOL.

    Jay, it is my personal opinion that nothing is going to happen to Karl Rove. He could get caught on camera sodomizing a Cub Scout troop on the floor of the Oval Office and the Republicans would still find a way to keep him smelling fresh as a daisy. I’m actually more scared by the thought of this administration without Rove–then they’ll just be stupid and bungling without any vision or plan behind them. Even an eeeevil plan is surely better than undirected pure stupidity…right?

    No, I think we will see Rove sink on this one. They will try hard to protect him but the excuse “I did not give out her name.” is lame. That’s like me saying Allen Holt’s wife is a CIA operative. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who Mrs. Allen Holt is.

    I’m actually with you re: evil plan vs. undirected stupidity. But I’m still scared of what this administration might be capable of if they don’t have some sort of guiding plan. Maybe if they don’t have that plan, though, their amazing idiocy and complete lack of respect for the American public will shine through much more clearly and help ensure an administration better suited to running the country can get themselves elected (of either party) in ’08. As long as these jackasses are out of office–and I mean all of ‘em–I’d imagine I’ll feel better about things.

    Brian and I were talking about what would happen if we had McCain vs. Rodham Clinton in ’08…I might actually have to think about where my vote would go, which I don’t think I’ve ever had to do in a Presidential election.

    McCain vs. Rodham Clinton. Nope, I know where my vote would go. I think McCain is one of the great politicians, but a shift in the balance of power is needed.

    Does Rhode Island even get one electoral vote or is it a fraction?

    YES, we get one whole electoral vote, thankyouverymuch. And there’s an advantage to our only having one vote…we don’t have to worry about the Republicans coming in here and cheating to swing a close election (Florida ’00, Ohio ’04). Our one vote will never swing an election. Part of me actually got a case of “why even bother?” syndrome last election, but I made my vote for Kerry anyway on principle.
